*1. **Project Director for an IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian
Program Grant*

*The HistoryMakers* seeks applications for a projector director for a three
year IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century* *Librarian Program Grant. *The
HistoryMakers* is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the
creation of a video archive of first person narratives of African American *
HistoryMakers*. *The HistoryMakers* received a Laura Bush 21st Century
Librarian Grant titled *Increasing African American Diversity in Archives:
The HistoryMakers Fellowship, Mentoring, Training and Placement
Institute. *This
grant* *involves recruiting and fostering the professional development of
early-career African American archivists, placing them in repositories of
African American primary source materials and then working closely with
those repositories.

*The project director will: *

- Maintain contact with all advisory board members and representatives
from partnering repositories;
- Manage and process fellowship applications;
- Oversee the planning and scheduling of advisory board meetings;
- Oversee the planning and scheduling of the fellows’ training sessions;
- Work closely with other staff at *The HistoryMakers*, including the
executive director, staff archivist, and administrative assistant;
- Monitor overall grant progress and ensuring that all guidelines are
adhered to and met;
- Submit reports to IMLS and working with the archivist and the
partnering institutions to make sure that all information necessary for
reporting is collected from the fellows;
- Work with executive director, the partnering institutions, and other
staff at *The HistoryMakers *on other grant opportunities;

* Essentials*

The candidate will have

Graduate degree in African American, American History, library science with
a concentration in archival management, or other related field;

- Knowledge of African American or American history;
- Experience with other grant related work in order to ensure that all
guidelines are adhered to and met;
- Strong project planning and time management skills;
- Strong leadership skills;
- Familiarity with computer databases (i.e. Microsoft Access and
FileMaker 10) and basic office software;
- Experience writing grants;
- Experience with EAD and EAC-CPF
- Superb writing and proof reading skills
- Ability to work in close cooperation with The HistoryMakers Founder &
Executive Director.



2. *Video Oral History Archivist*

The HistoryMakers seeks applications for a video oral history archivist. *The
HistoryMakers* is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the
creation of a video archive of first person narratives of African American *
HistoryMakers*. The initial goal is to create an archive of 5,000 interviews
over a five-year period. For a look at our current projects to go:
www.thehistorymakers.com. The archivist will be responsible for the planning
and implementation of a preservation and cataloguing system for *The
HistoryMakers* videotaped oral history collection.



*The archivist will: *

- Process, arrange and catalog the current collection of videotaped oral
histories;
- Establish the collection for a source of research for The HistoryMakers
internal purposes:
- Develop a cost effective way of facilitating transcriptions and
evaluations of interviews in the collection;
- Create finding aids and catalog records for the collection;
- Implement a cataloging system for the collection;
- Oversee the migration of the collection from analog to digital using
LTO drives;
- Identify preservation issues and needs;
- Develop a business model for The HistoryMakers digital archive; and
- Implement a preservation program for the current collection as well as
setting up a system for the future of the collection.

* Qualifications*

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in African American or
American history, library science with a concentration in archival
management, or other related field. The candidate must have experience
working in an archive or library with videotaped resources.



* Essentials*

The candidate will have



- Knowledge of African American history
- Knowledge of standards in moving-image cataloging and the creation of
finding aids including knowledge of EAD and EAC-CFP;
- Experience with videotape formats, in particular Beta cam SP; and
migrating collections using an encoding system like Samma Solo;
- Strong project planning and time management skills;
- Familiarity with computer databases (i.e. Microsoft Access and
FileMaker 10) and basic office software;
- Ability to work in close cooperation with The HistoryMakers Founder &
Executive Director.
